"Financial Wisom in Groups"
GREAT article (via Jesse). Love the headline in print version of the newspaper:
"FINANCIAL WISDOM IN GROUPS"
"How much better off would the world be right now if people had their
own personal finance committee to consult before making big money
decisions? I've long lamented the fact that there aren't as many money
clubs as there are book clubs. Plenty of us would be more successful
in meeting our financial goals if we met regularly with a small group
of like-minded people to lay our finances bare, from incomes to debt
to our spending foibles. It would be one part Debtors Anonymous and
one part Weight Watchers... inspire an international movement around
the idea."
Great line: "someone to congratulate you"
Reminds us of Ginger's awesome Girls Just Want to Have Funds Meetup in DC (and the ones she's sparked in Atlanta & elsewhere.)
Related, i met a guy from south africa on a flight last week and he told me about "stokvels" -- i'd never heard that word.

No reason why there couldn't be a massive global stokvel-like phenomenon, powered by meetup, in coming years. If we keep building the world's best local group platform, and if the world needs stokvel-like groups everywhere, it can happen.
News and views from Meetup HQ. What we're seeing as we help the world's people self-organize into local groups.
