This weekend, the Austin Meetup Organizers Meetup Group is having a panel discussion about how to get more Meetup Members.
When we heard about the event from Katie - the Organizer of the Austin Organizers Meetup - we were thrilled. The expert panelists are all great Meetup Organizers, who will definitely have some great ideas to share.
Sadly, we can't all be in Austin this weekend to take part. So we thought we'd profile the Meetup and some of the panelists here on the Meetup HQ blog!
Our first panelist is Thomas Unstattd Jr. He Organized the Central Texas Inklings Meetup:

Tell me a little bit about your Meetup story. How did you decide to become an Organizer?
I first joined Meetup in 2003 or so when Lindows did a big Meetup push. There were no Lindows Meetups near me so I didn't do anything with the site until Ron Paul ran last year. I then updated my profile and found some writers Meetups in my area. After visiting a few times I thought "I can do this," and here I am.I don't want to steal your thunder for the panel discussion on Saturday, but if you had to give one piece of advice to new Organizers, what would it be?
Find an Assistant Organizer ASAP who can help you with promotion. Ideally you want an Assistant who knows a lot of people you don't know. If your Assistant is your best friend, his or her circle of friends will overlap with yours. If you pick an Assistant you know but not that well, then your promotion abilities for the Group double. What's the best part about organizing a Meetup Group?
The meeting.
Thanks so much, Thomas!
Stay tuned for more updates later today and in the days ahead.
