Setting up an Amazon Payments Account or an Amazon Payments Business Account is free.
To pay for a Meetup with Amazon Payments, there is an Amazon transaction fee:
(The Amazon fee structure is copied from the Amazon Payments website for your convenience)
| Bank Account | 2% of transaction value + $0.05 | 2% of transaction value + $0.05 | 2% of transaction value + $0.05 |
| U.S. Credit Card | 5% of transaction value + $0.05 | 5% of transaction value + $0.05 | 2.9% of transaction value + $0.30 |
| International Credit Card | 6% of transaction value + $0.05 | 6% of transaction value + $0.05 | 3.9% of transaction value + $0.30 |
The fee Amazon charged is different from what Meetup said it would be. Why is that?
Amazon charges a different fee depending on the method of payment. The
estimate Meetup provides is based on someone paying with a US credit
card.
I'm an organizer and I thought I
passed the fees on to my members when I set up my Meetup, but it looks
like I'm paying fees after all. What's going on?
Amazon Payments will always deduct fees
from the organizer's account. Depending on whether you want to absorb
the fees or pass them on to your members, here's what you can do:
1. if you charge your members $20, you will pocket $19.12 ($0.88 will go towards Amazon fees).
2. if you want to pocket $20, you should charge your members $20.91 (in this case, there are $0.91 in Amazon fees.)
You should go with the option that works best for you and your members!
