Greetings, new Meetup Organizer! Welcome to a family of people passionate about sharing their interests with others. You're in for a fun and rewarding ride. Now it's time to get your Meetup off to a healthy start! Below you'll find three things that seasoned Organizers say are essential to a good lift-off.
Schedule an upcoming Meetup and RSVP for it
Add topics to your Meetup group
Upload a profile photo and a photo for your Meetup group
Schedule an upcoming Meetup and RSVP for it
Meetup's all about meeting in the real world. So let's create a Meetup to do just that!
- From your Meetup's home page, click "Schedule a Meetup"
- Set the details of your Meetup (date, time, location, description, etc) and then click "Schedule Meetup"
Since your Meetup group is brand new, we suggest setting that first Meetup a bit in the future (i.e. 2 or 3 weeks away from the day you start your Meetup Group). That way, members see it coming down the pipe and can make time to attend. It's also a good idea to hold first Meetups in an easy to find, well-lit, public location. Something chill and familiar like a Starbucks makes people feel comfortable.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to RSVP for your Meetup, too. Your RSVP starts momentum. Members are more likely to RSVP if they see others will be attending the Meetup.
- Click 'Calendar' on the left side of the page
- Click the meeting to which you wish to RSVP
- Select if you will attend, the number of guests you will bring, add any comments and then click 'SUBMIT'

Add topics to your Meetup group
Your Meetup has a primary topic. Pugs, Moms, Hiking, etc. You can add three more topics to your Meetup group as well!
For example, let's say you run a Pug group. You can add the Active Dogs, Small Breed Dogs, and Puppy topics to your Meetup group. Then your group will appear on the Active Dogs, Small Breed Dogs, and Puppy web pages in addition to the Pug web page. That gives your Meetup group more exposure. More people will find and join your Meetup group!
To add additional topics:
- Go to your Meetup group's Our Home page and click 'Group Settings' on the left side of the page.
- Click 'Topics'.
- Start typing your desired topic in the boxes.
- Select the topic that fits best and then click "Submit."
Multi-topicing your group is a super easy and smart way to attract more members. So think of some relevant topics for your Meetup group and add them!

Upload a profile photo and a photo for your Meetup group
Make sure to add a photo to your Meetup group. Even if it's just a generic picture of people getting together, a logo, or picture of a puppy, people join Meetup groups with photos 60% more often than those without.
- Click "Group Settings" on the left side of the page
- Click 'Basic Info'
- Under "Meetup Group Main Photo" click "Browse..." to select the photo you want to upload and then click "SUBMIT" to upload a swell photo
You should upload a photo into your account, too. Click here to go do that.
Don't have a photo? Puppies always make great avatars. Who doesn't love puppies?
