Introducing ‘Money’

Organizing a Meetup group can be rewarding, but it’s not always easy. Among other things, it takes time, dedication and creativity. It often takes money to run great, long-lasting groups. Because Meetup HQ wants your groups to be great and long lasting, we want to make money management as easy as possible for you.

Meetup already helps organizers collect money from members (via dues and paid Meetups) as well as get and manage Sponsors. Now, Meetup is the only groupware that enables organizers to manage group money in one centralized place, all without leaving your Meetup Group!

With ‘Money’, you can record expenses, dues and/or donations, payments you’ve received for specific Meetup events, and payments from Sponsors you may have. You can export this data into multiple formats, and have the option to share some of this information with your members, if you’re so inclined (all member information will be kept private).

If you’re an organizer, you should see a new tab in your left hand navigation called ‘Money’.

Get Meetup Ideas from Members
It can be a lot of work to be a Meetup organizer, but you don’t have to go it alone. Group members are a great resource for ideas and venues for Meetups. Listening to members’ input for Meetups not only generates good ideas, but motivates those members to RSVP for Meetups, to attend, to help out - to generally become more invested.

For groups with no Meetups scheduled, we’ve now made it easier to get ideas from your members. On your group’s home page, ‘Suggest a Meetup’ now links members to a page to suggest a Meetup idea, a time, and/or a location. It sends an email that the organizer can click through to Schedule a Meetup. (You can even click a button to give credit in the Meetup’s description to the member who suggested the idea.)

For organizers, we made the ‘Schedule a Meetup’ prompt easier to see, and added a link to ask your members for suggestions if you like.

(If you regularly have Meetups scheduled, this feature won’t be visible. If you’d like members to suggest a Meetup anyway, you can lead them to www.meetup.com/GROUP-NAME/suggestevent or use the link on the calendar page.)
