To create the kind of world we want to live in - where community abounds - we know we’ve got to have a Meetup Everywhere about Most Everything (MEME). Two new leaders will build departments to get us closer to that goal.
Fiona Spruill is the new head of global growth. In this role she will work to improve the Meetup experience for international Organizers and members, fostering more participation from current and future Meetuppers, and more community in every corner of the world.
Kristin Hodgson joins Meetup as the new communications director. In this new role she will make sure that people take notice of the Meetup movement, nearly 16 million members and 150,000 Meetup groups getting together everyday, in and around your backyard. Along the way, she’ll also shine a light on individual Meetup Groups.
Fiona Spruill and Kristin Hodgson
Prior to Meetup, Fiona worked at The New York Times for 14 years. In her last role there, she was editor of emerging platforms, serving as the newsroom’s lead on the design, development, and strategy of all mobile products. Before moving into that role, Fiona managed the 80 producers and editors in The Times’s web newsroom. She hired 80% of the web staff over 8 years and played a leading role in planning and executing online coverage of all major news events. Fiona’s other roles included editor of the NYTimes.com homepage, most notably on Sept. 11, 2001, and deputy editor in charge of the features sections. Fiona is a dual citizen of the U.S. and U.K., and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.
Before Meetup, Kristin was the senior managing director of Digital Initiatives at Teach For America. In that role, she led the product team for the public website, launched the content strategy practice, and told stories about TFA teachers and their students. Prior to Teach For America, Kristin held a variety of communications and marketing roles at Digitas, NavigationArts, and American Express Publishing. Kristin belongs to several Meetup Groups and co-founded the Web Content Mavens Meetup in Washington, D.C. She currently lives in Hastings on Hudson with her husband, daughter, and french bulldog.
