Ten Meetups to celebrate Meetup’s tenth birthday

You might remember Meetup’s 10th birthday winner Andy, who got the chance to attend any Meetup in the world.

Some folks have asked where Andy wound up—out of hundreds of thousands of Meetups that happen each month in countries all over the world, which one did Andy choose to visit?

Well, it turns out Andy didn’t choose one Meetup at all.

His trip of a lifetime happened because of Meetup’s 10th birthday, so Andy decided that one Meetup wasn’t going to be enough.

Andy hit ten Meetups… in under ten days.

Check out Andy’s Meetup bonanza, a mix of running and socializing:

In Andy’s own words:

All my friends had said that it was karma paying me back for being such a nice person to all those important to me, and for dealing with more than my fair share of hardships in my short 30 years of life…

Thanks to all the organizers of the various groups we’ve attended, and all of the members who took the time to come to the Meetups we’d attended.

The experience will last in my memory forever, and hopefully some friendships I’ve made will last equally as long.

All of us at Meetup HQ were thrilled to hear about Andy’s whirlwind Meetup adventure.

Andy, thanks for sharing your journey with all of us!

Winner of the Meetup 10th birthday celebration

There were 2 million RSVPs between June 11 and July 15, but only one person could win our 10th birthday present.

Andy

Andy lives in Michigan, but can now attend a Meetup anywhere in the world, on us!

He’s in a number of active outdoor Meetups, including Be Active. Be Outdoors. While the group’s Organizer Ula usually gets members to hit the trails or hop into the water, Andy’s winning RSVP came from taking a break with the group at a movie outing.

After checking in with Ula, we contacted Andy to let him know what happened. He’s currently planning his Meetup of a lifetime, and we’ll keep you posted on where he winds up!

Wherever he goes, he’s definitely going to take in the sights by running, since it’s one of his favorite things to do. In fact, he says on his member profile, “I run as practice in the event of a zombie apocalypse.” Now that’s someone ready for adventure!

Just because Meetup’s 10th birthday celebration is wrapped up, doesn’t mean the adventure has to stop.

RSVP for a Meetup near you and let the fun continue!

7/26/2012 5:23pm: Updated RSVP total.

Happy birthday to all of us!

It’s Meetup’s tenth birthday, but you deserve the credit for getting us all here.

That’s why we want to give one of you a trip to any Meetup in the world!

Between June 11 and July 15, RSVP and attend a local Meetup and you are automatically entered to win.

You can enter up to five times by going to five different Meetups — but of course,
you have to click that lil’ RSVP button and get your Meetup shoes on during this birthday celebration. Get all the rules below.

You could meetup with hikers in the Alps, moms in Hawaii, techies in New York City…
We’ll cover the cost of the winner’s hotel and airfare up to $5,000. All you have to do is explore Meetups near you.

We can’t wait to see where your next Meetups take you!

6/14/2012 11:30am: Edited the text above to clear up some ambiguity.
